The busy market town finds itself in a great location being on routes to both the spectacular sights of the Cambrian Mountains region as well as the delights of the famous Cardigan Bay coast.
The area has a solid textiles tradition with the Welsh Quilt centre holding annual exhibitions in the town. Denmark Farm Conservation Centre is nearby where you can take part in skills complementing the destination. Also nearby is Cae Hir Gardens where you can wander the grounds and enjoy the garden which has been transformed from farmland over the last hundred years.
Lampeter is the oldest university town in Wales and has an interesting history to discover. The university was founded by the Royal Charter in 1822 and is now a campus of the University of Wales Trinity St David (UWTSD). Lampeter University is the base for the International Dylan Thomas Creative Writing Summer School.
Dylan Tomas is connected with Lampeter after appearing in court himself after witnessing a shooting which was dramatised in the film ‘The Edge of Love’. The courthouse in which he appeared is now home to the Welsh Quilt Centre.
