The Talbot Hotel is somewhat famous for being the resting site of a legendary Victorian circus elephant, known locally as Jwmbi. Many versions of the story have been told and in recent years, University of Wales Trinity St David’s archaeology team carried out a small-scale excavation which didn’t shed any light. They are to continue the hunt for Jwmbi’s resting place.

The elephant is not the only legend with connections to Tregaron. Twm Siôn Cati’, the Welsh Robin Hood’ has many connections with the area and you can learn all about the legends and tales on dedicated walks and trails.
